Brits still buying beds
30/07/2010
Brits'' desire for new memory foam mattresses shows no sign of abating, after research shows people are still buying beds.
Shoppers in the UK are spending money on beds and bedroom furniture despite all other areas of the furniture market experiencing difficulty amid a tricky economic environment, according to retail market research firm Verdict.
The Verdict report found that the bed and bedroom furniture market is set to grow by £79.4 million this year.
By contrast, the overall furniture and floor covering market in the UK is predicted to shrink by £518.2 million.
Verdict retail analyst Matt Walton commented: "Beds have held up well even in the current economy due to the strong connection between quality of sleep and the feeling of well-being."
The news comes as online retailers in the UK experienced a bumper June, reporting a 20 per cent increase in sales on the same month in 2009, according to the latest IMRG/Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index.
