Lack of sleep ''affects health and relationships''
26/07/2010
Failure to get a proper night''s sleep on a mattress can have serious consequences for health and relationships, it has been claimed.
Poor sleep quality can affect a person''s mental state and lead to depression, according to the Sleep Council.
This can be because depression is both a symptom and cause of poor sleep, spokesperson for the council Jessica Alexander explained.
She added that lack of sleep can also have an impact on other aspects of a person''s mood, which may affect their relationships.
"If you are well-rested and feeling good, you are going to be much more cheerful to be around. So by default, sleep will affect a relationship," Ms Alexander added.
Her comments follow research by Silentnight Beds, which indicates that parents lose around six months'' worth of sleep within the first two years of their child''s birth.
