I colourful duvet thrown across the bed could be the perfect complement to a neutral colour palette in the bedroom.
Homeowners have been urged to use a "splash of colour" to invigorate a bedroom in an article for the Times Colonist.
Leanne Brownoff notes that colour themes can be a great complement to simple, contemporary furniture lines, adding that the main fabric used should be kept solid in colour.
She explained: "Contrasting colours and patterns can be added in small amounts, in areas like accent pillows and artwork."
Ms Brownoff also suggested using chartreuse or burnt orange coloured bedding on wooden beds.
Earlier this month, interior designer Carolyn Park suggested that wood is a popular choice for bedroom furniture because it is so versatile.
Wooden furniture is particularly popular at the top end of the market, she added, highlighting the recognised quality in wooden furniture among homeowners.
