''Night dieting'' can help weight loss
19/07/2010
Curbing food intake before going to bed could be key to keeping the weight off, it has been suggested.
Having a light dinner allows the dieting process to begin "when you are winding down", according to the DC Ladies blog.
A post by Rebecca Scritchfield suggested switching the light salad lunch for something more protein-heavy, then eating the lighter option at dinner time.
"Swap your salad at lunch for a tuna wrap (choose either light mayo or cheese not both) and have an entree salad at dinner," she writes.
Research published in September by scientists at Northwestern University indicates that eating at irregular times, such as before bed, can have a significant effect on weight gain.
This study, published in the journal Obesity, is the first to make a causal link between the time people eat and their risk of increased weight gain, suggesting that the body''s circadian rhythm - or internal clock - may play a significant metabolic role.
