Avoid technology in bed, experts say
16/07/2010
Technology should be avoided at all costs while under the duvet cover, it has been emphasised.
An article for the Philadelphia Inquirer noted that too many people are emailing, texting or using social networking sites from the comfort of their double bed.
This, sleep experts believe, makes it difficult for the mind and body to unwind at the end of the day.
Meir Kryger, director of sleep research and education at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, emphasised that there are far too many gadgets to distract people in the bedroom.
The expert continued: "You have people texting at all hours of the night. I had one patient whose problem was e-mail. He thought if he got an email at 2am, he should respond at 2am."
In recent months, Phyllis Zee, a neuroscience professor at Northwestern University, noted that the iPad can have a negative impact on sleep, not least for the light it emits.
