Stress inhibits sleep, says expert

Addressing stress is crucial for anyone who is struggling to sleep, an expert has highlighted.
Spokesperson for the Sleep Council Jessica Alexander emphasised that stress prevents the brain switching between being awake and going into sleep mode.
Each person will find that different techniques help them get some decent rest, she continued, so individuals need to experiment and see what helps best.
Ms Alexander commented: "Some people meditate, but the old case of counting sheep is based on good reasoning.
"You do something so mundane and boring and it can block out other thoughts."
The worst thing a person can do is get into bed and lay there worrying about stresses that have arisen throughout the day, the expert added.
Travelodge''s annual Sleep Professions study recently revealed that 75 per cent of Britain''s workforce is getting less than the recommended eight hours of sleep per night.
