Japanese govt ''calls for earlier bedtime''
28/06/2010
The Japanese population has been asked by the government to consider going to bed earlier to help reduce CO2 emissions.
According to the Independent, getting under the duvet cover just one hour earlier than usual will reduce household electricity consumption by 20 per cent.
This is because people stay up to watch the TV or use other electrical appliances that would not be in use during periods of natural unconsciousness.
The government is also calling on the country to use energy efficient light bulbs, switch lights off in rooms that are not in use and recycling more.
It is hoping to reduce Japan''s CO2 emission by 25 per cent on levels seen in 1990, the report added.
A recent study from Travelodge found that workers here in the UK are often losing sleep over job-related worries, with civil servants and bankers among those affected the most.
