How to sleep better on hot, sticky, summer nights
24/06/2010
Making a number of simple changes can have a massive impact on a person''s ability to sleep during warmer nights, it has been suggested.
Having a lukewarm shower before bed, for example, helps an individual cool down before they get under the duvet cover, helium.com said.
Opening the windows will also help reduce the temperature in the bedroom, it suggested, as will chilling bed linen in the fridge before going to sleep.
Choosing cool foods for an evening meal may also help, as this both slows down the metabolism and does not raise the body temperature too high, it continued.
The article added: "Hot nights are best spent sleeping alone.
"Having an extra body in bed with you raises the ambient temperature and can make sleeping uncomfortable during the summer months."
Homeowners were recently advised to decorate their bedrooms to reflect the warm weather outside, as this can help make the ambience much cooler.
