''Ask yourself questions'' if struggling to sleep
14/06/2010
Those suffering from sleeplessness need to ask themselves some questions as to why they are struggling to doze off, an expert has recommended.
Responding to a reader question in the Daily Telegraph, author of the Good Sleep Guide Sammy Margo highlighted that a number of factors can lead to sleeplessness.
Among them is the conditions in the bedroom, as an environment that is too light, cold or warm can seriously scupper the chances of getting some decent shut-eye.
"Is your bed more than eight years-old and are your pillows still supportive? Are you sleeping in the best position for you?," the expert asked.
Ms Margo also revealed that certain medication can create anxiety and interfere with sleep, so GPs need to be consulted to see whether they can be replaced with something less disruptive.
This follows evidence presented by Daniel Freeman from the Institute of Psychiatry at King''s College London at the Cheltenham Science Festival, who revealed that a lack of sleep can lead to paranoia.
