Life of a mattress ''depends on several factors'' The lifespan of a mattress depends on a variety of factors, but people nevertheless need to ensure they replace them as often as is necessary.

This is according to Deepa Nair, who in an article for moneycontrol.com highlighted that people should be taking advice from the experts and buying new mattresses every five to seven years.

After this period, a mattress no longer provides adequate comfort and support, she revealed, and therefore fails to fulfil its function.

When buying new mattresses, the writer advises customers to spend time checking them out and ensuring they make the right decision.

She continued: "Consider whether you''re a stomach, side or back sleeper (or a combination) to determine your comfort level. Mattresses do not have to be hard as a board to be good."

The new Maxima range of Silentnight mattresses has been launched in recent days, with the products said to offer maximum comfort due to the Miracoil technology they use.
