A decent night''s sleep ''restores colour perception''
10/06/2010
Sleep is essential for ensuring colours can be seen properly, as perception gradually wears off throughout the course of the day.
This is according to researchers at the University of Houston in Texas, who discovered that rest helps to refresh the mind and how colours are interpreted.
Bhavin Sheth, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering, revealed that people who are just about to go to bed often see grey as having a green tint.
However, following a decent night''s sleep, this was rectified.
Dr Sheth commented: "This is among the first studies to investigate the effects of sleep on perception.
"Our findings suggest that wakefulness causes colour classification to drift away from neutrality."
It was recently said by Jennifer Antkowiak in a piece for beliefnet.com that sleep is essential for maintaining health and wellbeing, as it gives both the brain and body sufficient time to rest.
