Smarter sleep ''will leave you feeling refreshed''
08/06/2010
Decent sleep is all about quality, not quantity, so people need to take all the necessary steps to ensure they doze off properly.
This is according to Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, author of Tired But Wired, who said that eight hours sleep is not essential for everyone.
There is not a one size fits all approach when it comes to sleep, she told the Independent, as Margaret Thatcher famously used to say she only needed four hours'' rest.
Dr Ramlakhan continued: "There may be times you need four hours. At other points that could increase to seven or eight. It''s about awareness of your needs."
She added that people need to be aware of their requirements at different times to be able to gauge when is the best time to go to sleep and wake up.
Hotel chain Travelodge recently took action to ensure its guests get a good night''s sleep by employing wardens to patrol corridors.
