Knowledge about bedroom fabrics is ''growing quickly''
27/04/2010
People are much more clued-up about what they want in the bedroom when it comes to fabric, at least when compared to the previous year, it has been asserted.
The Times explained that the latest obsession is with thread count and Egyptian cotton, which was simply not considered or understood as little as five years ago, when "no-one outside the bed linen department at the Ritz" knew what either term meant.
Fiona Caulfield, bed linen buyer at John Lewis, told the newspaper that a year ago, her company started seeing rising sales of 400 thread count pima bed linen - akin to Egyptian cotton though produced from a longer staple.
However, now they are seeing 800-thread offerings becoming very popular, adding: "Genuisa, or suvin cotton, which has an even longer staple and a 1,000 threadcount. It is the ultimate in luxury."
The newspaper added that people now understand words such as sateen and percale - both high-quality weaves - showing the popularity of the market.
Linda Woodrum, a designer of the HGTV Green Home 2010, recently explained to Napsnet that people can make their bedroom more eco-aware through the use of organic cotton.
