Are mattress allergens affecting sleep?
23/04/2010
Allergens found in mattresses could be affecting the quality of many people''s sleep, it has been claimed.
Tell-tale signs of suffering from the effects of an allergy while asleep are difficulty breathing during the night and snoring, according to the Simmons Bedding Company.
The firm''s environmental lifestyle expert Danny Seo explained that people often make the mistake of attributing symptoms to hayfever or other outdoor triggers, when the problem may be in the mattress itself.
Mr Seo added: "A good night''s sleep is an important element of overall health and many individuals may be experiencing diminished sleep quality due to allergens in their mattresses, pillows or drapes."
He noted that choosing a new mattress made with new, natural materials is likely to be beneficial for combating sleep problems.
Earlier this week, a spokesperson for Allergy UK Lindsey McManus explained that allergies can develop for a number of reasons, including illness, pollution or smoking.
