Debenhams: Bad "bediquette'' causing strife in relationships
31/03/2010
Bad bed manners are causing many couples to fall out, perhaps forcing one of the pair to shun their bedstead in favour of a couch for a less annoying night under the sheets.
Such is the discovery of Debenhams, which found that nearly three-quarters of the nation have considered splitting from partners because of bad bed manners, while 80 per cent have thought about moving to a spare room and another 78 per cent have mulled over the idea of moving out completely.
Steve Lightfoot, trading director for the home department at Debenhams, said that the majority of people make do with bad sleep because of the stigma of sleeping in separate beds as they believe it takes the romance out of the relationship.
He added: "For this reason we are also looking into cushion bed-dividers to guard against flailing arms and legs. Going to bed could be a military operation, but we are keen to try to find solutions for these problems."
Recently, author Paul C Rosenblatt told the Daily Telegraph that bed sharing is "an achievement in co-ordination" and that couples must learn how to sleep comfortably alongside each other.
