Sustainable bedding is ''becoming very accessible''
23/03/2010
A growth in environmentally-conscious consumers has led to a wholesale expansion of the availability of sustainable bedding options in the market, according to a new study.
Pablo Paster, a weekly columnist for TreeHugger.com, said that the number of companies selling mattresses made with organic cotton or wool, for example, has expanded hugely and appeals to a number of buyers who want to maintain their conscience in the realms of the natural environment.
This is even applicable to foam, it was added, as people also have the option of a natural latex foam mattress, given that natural latex comes from the rubber tree and is biodegradable unlike urethane.
Mr Paster added: "If you do get a memory foam mattress or have one already please remember not to let small children sleep in it. The contour-fitting properties of these mattresses can make it difficult for them to turn over."
Many people who are unable to afford the luxury of a memory foam mattress may instead want to try a topper in the short-term to see if the extra money is worth spending.
