Report: Americans not getting enough sleep
19/03/2010
Sleep does not seem to be top priority for people in the US, after a new report revealed that only six out of ten respondents are getting at least seven hours of sleep a night.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the rates are on par with prior surveys, showing that habits are simply not changing in the country.
The lack of time in bed adds to a range of issues which continue to plague the lives of people Stateside, as it was also revealed that just 31 per cent of people in the poll admitted to getting their recommended daily allowance of 30 minutes of exercise five times a week.
While the national survey polled 79,000 Americans from age 18 and above between 2005 and 2007, the results were only released this week.
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the CDC applies laws to the control of infectious diseases primarily, while also studying trends in environmental health, education in regards to wellbeing and the promotion of exercise and good diets.
