Tracey Emin shows ''clever style'' with cat-infused bed quilt
17/03/2010
Tracey Emin is no stranger to style and art, which has again filtered through with her latest creation: a patchwork quilt using a range of additions to give it a little more personality.
Sue Prichard, the curator of Quilts: 1700-2010, told the Times that Tracey''s quilt uses a cat design that is added to the patchwork as a basic applique, which is "an easy and fun way to decorate all sorts of things such as clothes, shoes, bags, cushions, pillows and bed linen".
She argued that Emin''s principle is much the same as patchwork, where small pieces of fabric are cut out using templates and then used as a topside patch stitched or applied directly on to the background fabric - in this case, the traditional square offering often seen in shops around the UK.
Ms Prichard added that people should consider putting in a bit of work to make their own patchwork quilt, adding that the most popular shapes include flowers, birds, hearts, leaves, fruit and animals.
Tracey Emin is perhaps best known for the My Bed artwork, which was later bought by Charles Saatchi.
