TVs in bedrooms ''mean poor health'' for young ones A recent study has discovered how media has slowly become a major part of each young person''s day, with electronics dominating bedrooms and personal spaces of teenagers and preteens across the world.

US News revealed that the research, published recently in journal Pediatrics by Victor Strasburger, a professor of paediatrics at the University of New Mexico, discovered that children spend over seven hours a day with their various technologies, even when they are in bed.

He explained: "Two thirds of children have a TV in their bedroom, which doubles his or her risk of smoking and increases the risk of becoming overweight by one third.

"Kids with bedroom TVs also get less sleep and spend less time reading and doing hobbies."

Professor Strasburger asserted that people need to get their TV or internet connection out of the bedroom as there is no way of controlling their habits.

Last week, the Daily Mail forwarded tips published in new book called Nurtureshock: Why Everything We Thought About Children Is Wrong, by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman. In it, the authors asserted that the impact of a lost hour of sleep for children has harmful consequences, affecting emotional stability and weight gain.
