Berlusconi buys Napoleon''s bed

Silvio Berlusconi is hardly known for his subtlety in front of the cameras, with a private life to rival that of most celebrities.
As such, he has added to this legacy by taking the extraordinary step of buying a bed, but not any old offering - the one that belonged to none other than Napoleon.
Despite this huge piece of history being fitted in his boudoir, Silvio immediately demanded that it be extended in order to get a king-size mattress on it.
Annamaria Quattrini, the woman who sold it to him, said: "For its symbolic value, I would say the most important piece I have ever sold him was a bed that belonged to Napoleon, naturally in the style of an emperor."
She explained how it had a large canopy, eagles on the four corners and bronze fittings, adding that she hopes he "has sweet dreams on it".
Last December, Berlusconi was in the news after being hit in the face with an alabaster statuette of Milan Cathedral following a political rally in the city''s Piazza Duomo.
