Mattress expert applies science to safety

An enterprising mattress expert has decided to use his knowledge of beds and apply it to an environment which requires much more safety than the act of getting good sleep.
Tom Morgan of Dynamic Systems, a small foam company in Madison County, North Carolina, has instead decided to apply the technology to a national sport, lining American football helmets with memory foam, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported.
He explained that his main concern is the young generation and asserted that serious head injuries can be avoided with more forward-thinking, as the memory foam can absorb the hit much easier, leading to it being labelled one of the safest helmets following testing.
Mr Morgan added: "I certainly think the NFL [National Football League] is important, but our real commitment is to the collegiate, high school and junior high athletes. These are the precious young people that need to be protected. We are using Nasa technology to make football safer."
The NFL is down to its final four teams, with a Super Bowl champion being named in February from the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets.
