Children''s beds left alone by deadly snake
22/12/2009
A two-metre long brown tree snake caused a huge stir at an Australian home as it slithered between the beds of two children before being removed as it threatened their mother.
The woman, who wished to remain nameless, spoke to the Cainrs Post about her ordeal, with the children''s beds of her one and four-year-old offspring being the site of high alert after the sound of falling books alerted her to something being amiss.
As the snake got closer to her young ones, the mother tried to act quickly and get her kids out, but the snake reared and pinned the mother to the wall as she helplessly looked on, with her sleeping children unaware of what was happening.
Snake catchers later secured the room. Commenting on the experience, she said: "I''m just thankful the animal didn''t bite the babies, I wouldn''t have a clue what to do if it did."
The brown tree snake is found in Australia, Papua New Guinea and across a number of islands in the Pacific; the worst people can expect over here in the UK is the adder.
