Many people looking to get a mattress in the coming weeks and months may be in for a shock - after all, a lot has changed in the last few years in the industry to make people sleep better, it has been said.
Mary Beth Breckenridge of the Akron Beacon Journal outlined how many manufacturers are now masters of such things as temperature control, following extensive research into temperature as an important factor in how well people sleep.
Furthermore, many companies are beginning to embrace much more environmentally-friendly filling materials such as natural latex, or renewable fibres including bamboo and soy.
Finally, Ms Breckenridge underlined how additions to mattresses are also hugely popular, such as aromatherapy offerings which use capsules of lavender as a sedative, while other crazy beds have magnets inside that "improve circulation and alleviate pain".
The Better Sleep Council advocates the use of the EASE Method when buying a mattress: Evaluating your current mattress, Arming yourself with knowledge, Shopping to find the right mattress and Ensuring quality care.
