Newborn babies understandably need a lot of care and attention, though the importance of sleep in their tiny young lives may be much greater than many people may think.
In order to stress the need for regulated sleeping in young ones, HealthDay News outlined a series of guidelines to ensure they have a healthy development, most notably highlighting the need to wake them up if the young one hasn''t had anything to eat for five hours.
Other ways to make sure that babies get the most out of their time in bed is to ensure they sleep on their back to reduce the chance of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), while plush bedding or pillows should be avoided completely.
Additionally, stuffed animals need to leave the crib at bedtime, while it is advised that a baby should sleep on the other side of their head each night to avoid the development of a flat spot.
Earlier this month, research from Bristol University found that babies sleeping in the same bed as their parents are much more likely to suffer at the hands of SIDS.
