A survey looking into mattresses and beds has been released by Consumer Reports, with the organisation looking into buying trends and the importance of certain factors in the purchase.
The company polled 17,444 people in coming to its conclusions, finding that 41 per cent are happy with their investment, 43 per cent find the offering to be satisfactory and a sorry 16 per cent believe they would pick something else entirely.
Meanwhile, Consumer Reports also found that 72 per cent of those who spent at least ten minutes in different positions on the bed were "highly satisfied" with their investment, as opposed to the 62 per cent who were fortunate enough to be pleased with their purchase despite not testing it.
Authors of the report insisted that one thing was for sure: paying full price is just silly.
They wrote: "The suggested retail price of a mattress is pure fiction. Discounts of 50 per cent or more are common. In our survey, only 36 per cent of respondents tried haggling. Among those who tried, 72 per cent got a lower price."
Yesterday, Dr Michael J Breus, an expert who operates the Insomnia Blog, said the most important thing in mattress buying is the need to test it before investing in it.
