Investing in a bed or mattress is a decision best made without any true commitment to saving money, according to an expert in the world of health and sleep.
Michael J Breus, a sleep doctor who operates The Insomnia Blog, explained that the only thing that must be taken into account when buying a bed is how comfortable the mattress is, regardless of how much that decision will set you back.
He explained: "If you fall into heaven when you test out a new mattress that''s just shy of $1,000 [£600], grab it. On the other hand, if your back seems to only like expensive tastes, well then. Consider it a worthy investment."
Dr Breus added that people need to take their own pillow when they "test drive" a mattress, while trying a bed on each side of their body for at least ten minutes.
The expert recommends the use of several machines for people wanting to invest in their sleep, including aromatherapy treatments, eye masks, mattress toppers and books.
