A child''s fortunate escape from a bedroom fire has sparked a safety warning from the Kent Fire and Rescue team.
According to a report for the BBC, a young one got up and warned his family after seeing his bedding ablaze due to a clip-on spotlight, which was so intense that it set fire to his bed.
The fire, which started at 02:00 BST, caused a man in Tunbridge Wells to throw the mattress into the garden and put it out, though it was not fully extinguished and needed fire crew intervention at 06:30 BST.
A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman told the BBC: "The family are extremely lucky the child woke up and raised the alarm. The child''s mother was extremely shocked.
"If you are going to use a clip-on spotlight you must make sure it''s away from things like bedding and curtains and ensure it is securely fixed."
Fire and Rescue teams around the country insist that people get fire doors fitted to bedrooms, as this limits any blaze to one room and keeps a property and its occupants much safer.
