The man behind a crash in Kent following the poor delivery of a mattress has been sent down for his part in a moment of utter madness in a supermarket in Hampshire earlier this year.
In an act of remonstration with the chain''s managers, 50-year-old Robert Caton responded to the delivery of a bed without a mattress by downing almost all of a bottle of whisky, jumping into his Rolls Royce and ploughing into the side of Tesco in Andover, Dukes of Hazzard style.
Shoppers dived for cover as the car flew through the window, wiping out two checkouts and sending the cash registers and other items into the biscuits and confectionery aisle.
For his inability to ask for a refund or call Tesco Direct as opposed to crashing into one of the chain''s outlets, Mr Caton got 16 months in prison, though his wife remained defiant, claiming that she was"standing by him".
Last week, a mattress actually saved someone''s life in a crash, with Xavier Bouldin of Fayetteville, North Carolina surviving a car going through his bedroom wall because his mattress rolled up to stop him getting crushed.
