Following news that separate beds is the way forward for many people struggling to get rest along with their partner on an evening, one expert has given tips to those wanting to invest in a new single bed.
Caitlin Price, who works as a bed buyer for John Lewis, spoke to the Guardian about just what is needed, noting that the mattress is top priority.
She explained: "Test out how each one feels for you. Your shoulders, hips and knees should be able to sink into it so your spine can remain in a straight line."
Mattresses with a higher spring count are also desired by many buyers, it was added, particularly pocket springs which can deliver more stability.
Finally, if a bed squeaks, it needs to be replaced as a good one "shouldn''t do that", Ms Price concluded.
A new bed may be good for a number of people between 57 and 63 - an age group which is struggling to sleep due to the recession, according to a recent study by Alex Dregan of the University of Surrey.
