People may not quite realise just how much a bad mattress can affect their health in the long term, according to a new report.
According to the El Paso Times, people will happily spend a lot of time looking for all kinds of furniture for around the home and yet their mattress is the one which gives them the most comfort and, most importantly, healthy benefits.
Karin Mahoney, director of communications for the Better Sleep Council, told the newspaper: "Honestly, mattresses are one of the most overlooked pieces of furniture in the home. It''s not like people are looking at them all day like their coffee table or couch.
"But it''s one of the most important pieces of furniture, since you spend two-thirds of your life on it."
She added that people will blame things on stress and other psychological issues, when in reality most problems can be linked to a lack of sleep brought on by an uncomfortable mattress.
Those wanting the best mattress experience in the world may want to travel to New York, after Luxe City Guides named the Bowery Hotel in the area at having the best beds.
