A firm in Singapore has decided to launch a campaign to provide disadvantaged locals with a mattress a week.
Beds.sg, the company based on the Malaysian peninsula, has become troubled by news that many individuals with little or no income are unable to replace their "shabby, unusable, unhygienic mattresses".
Any poor person in the city can apply for a free mattress under the programme, with applications being done online or dealt with by others who can access the information on their behalf.
Winners of the competition will regularly have their names posted on the company blog and the creator of the scheme, Naveed Lee, emphasised that he hopes the effort will reach those who need their help the most.
Hotel mattresses were recently under the spotlight, with Luxe City Guides naming those offered by the Bowery Hotel in New York as the best in the world.
