Nasa is to celebrate its 40th anniversary of putting Neil Armstrong on the moon on July 20th, though that is far from the only contribution the organisation has made to mankind, it is believed.
Scotland on Sunday compiled a list of Nasa''s achievements, listing one for each year of the space agency''s life after the moon landings in 1969.
Bed lovers will be particularly happy to know that memory foam is high on the list, with the material originally being developed to help astronauts face the G-force pressures exerted on the body during take-off.
Its major application now is in its use in mattresses, where it is regularly used to reduce the chances of bed sores in hospitals as well as provide a great amount of support for aching bones or muscles, the newspaper added.
Other inventions brought about by Nasa technology noted by the press included anything from faster golf balls to major heart surgery.
Nasa revealed this week that is would be releasing a restored video of the Apollo 11 moonwalk to coincide with birthday celebrations.
