A bestselling author has recommended that women in the UK and US need to sleep more like their female French counterparts.
Speaking to wowOwow, author Mireille Guiliano said the likes of the US have started to neglect sleep as a necessity in life - something French people still haven''t turned their back on, she asserts.
She said that when her husband visited Paris, he could not believe how most lights were off by 11pm, adding that in New York, it is more of an issue of a city which never turns away from their computer or TV before heading to bed at a reasonable hour.
Nonetheless, sitting down to eat is what Ms Guiliano considers to be the entertainment on a night for the French, adding that for the rest of the night, they are more content with simply listening to music or relaxing - something other Westerners must do.
This week, a different sleeping tradition - the upright sitting position usually held by Buddhist monks when they rest - was praised, with the BBC explaining that muscle mass was not wasted through this position.
