Crib is ''always best for baby''s sleep'' The best place to put a baby for healthy sleep is in a bed, it has been emphasised.

Health Canada stated this week that although many things are used to help an unattended sleeping baby get some rest such as car seats, strollers and changing tables, the best option is to simply put them in a regular crib.

The organisation explained: "It is not safe for babies to be in a seated position to sleep. When asleep, babies'' heads can fall forward due to their under-developed muscles and their airways can become constricted."

It was added that when the destination is reached by a parent and their child, the safest place to move the young one to sleep in a crib.

Extra blankets, mattresses and pillows should not be added to a playpen for a baby, it is added, due to the chance of suffocation which may arise.

According to the Newborn Baby Zone, parents should always opt for firm mattresses as it delivers the necessary support for a baby''s neck.
