Many children in Kirklees, Huddersfield are likely to be settling into bed with a good book each evening, following the success of a new reading scheme.
According to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, the Boys into Books reading initiative has been well-received in the borough.
The scheme is run by the School Library Association that provides children with books, recommended reading lists and additional materials to boost reading across the UK.
Thousands of pupils in Kirklees have already benefited from the scheme, according to councillor John Smithson.
He told the Examiner: "Reading should be an integral part of every child''s life and I am delighted at the support shown by Kirklees council for this project.
"The books sent out to schools in Kirklees have been read by many thousands of young people."
A Reading for Pleasure report by the National Literacy Trust published in 2007 indicated that reading school-age children a bedtime story can boost their achievement.
