Purotex is a probiotic treatment at the fabric level of your anti-allergy mattress. Fully approved by Allergy UK, it is a 100% natural solution that releases friendly bacteria while you sleep to combat the most common allergy triggers, such as dust mite allergies.
Studies have shown that in order to enjoy deep and restful sleep, our body temperature needs to fall during the night. When we're too hot in our beds, the heat generates moisture that can encourage dust mites.
Purotex is an active probiotic that is placed inside millions of tiny capsules woven into the fabric that we use to make the comfortable quilted top layer of our mattresses. When you get into bed, the friction created by your body on the mattress causes a small part of the micro-capsules to open up and activate the probiotics.
Once released, the friendly bacteria absorbs moisture and eliminating dust-mites and preventing mold from developing ensuring that your mattress remains hygienically clean to promote healthy, restful sleep.
House dust mites are tiny creatures measuring no more than a quarter of a millimetre long. They're invisible to the naked eye and largely harmless, but their droppings can trigger allergies, and are particularly associated with asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis.
Unfortunately for allergy sufferers, house dust mites thrive in bedrooms. The heat and moisture that our bodies emit during the night, along with the dead skin cells that we routinely shed, can encourage large populations of dust mites to thrive in the fabrics of your bedding.
"My son was so excited to receive the mattress almost two months ago now. Compared to his previous one, the soft topping to the new Puretex® is soft and snuggly. From the first night, he slept well with the new mattress. This is a major bonus for me considering how hard MyItchyBoy finds it to sleep at the best of times. Since the mattress was put into action, we have still had some rough nights. However, his legs have not been so itchy and in between night time waking times he definitely sleeps more soundly. Overall, this is a great mattress and super comfy - which means a much better night's sleep for everyone in the house"
There are a number of ways in which you can combat the spread of dust mites. Eliminating them entirely is quite difficult, but by keeping their levels low you can significantly alleviate your allergic symptoms. Use tested anti-allergy mattress toppers and pillow, duvet and mattress covers. These should be breathable and should completely enclose the bedding item.
You should also wash your bed sheets on a regular basis. Any bedding not encased in barrier covers should be washed at a temperature of 60 degrees centigrade or higher every week. Lower temperatures may wash away the allergens temporarily, but the mites are more likely to survive and produce more.
Mites also thrive in carpeted areas, so if possible replace your carpets with hard flooring, which is easier to keep clean. Vacuum regularly with a high-filtration vacuum cleaner. Certain flooring types are specially designed to prevent allergen build-up. See the Allergy UK website for more information.
Ensure the surfaces around your home are kept clean and dust-free. Areas such as window sills, cupboards and pelmet tops should be damp-wiped every week for best results. Washable soft toys and cotton curtains should also be frequently washed at the same temperature as your bed sheets.
Improving ventilation to reduce humidity can also play an important role in reducing dust mite allergens. Extractor fans should be installed in bathrooms and kitchens, and you should air out your bedroom every day. If necessary, consider investing in a dehumidifier to keep indoor humidity between 30-50%.
