I am 20 years old and have been suffering with this since January 2010. A noise outside woke me up, it was a banging noise, must have been people outside, however, the noise woke me up and since that night for some reason I’ve been waking up every night when I sleep. It’s really annoying. I try to get 8 hours of sleep every night but it’s hard when you always wake up and go back to sleep and then wake up again. It’s hard to know the exact hours of sleep I’m getting. Maybe I do sleep 8 hours all through once a week, but I doubt that I do. I think I just don’t remember because I go back to sleep quickly. I’m really depressed about this, have been for months since it happened. I am also worried that it’s affecting my health, that I’m not going to grow taller and that because of this I’m only 5ft 6” and they say that sleep helps with growth.

Disturbed sleep can cause a great deal of distress. We are all aware that if we don't get a good night's sleep, we are less effective the next day. Everybody's needs are different. The range of time people sleep normally is as wide as 3 to 10 hours. It's not uncommon to wake during the night and if you are able to return to sleep quickly as you state, then all the better.
Get into a routine with your sleep times. don't go to bed early to try and get more sleep – you are more likely to lie awake thinking about getting a good night's sleep. Ensure you get some physical exercise during the day as this will make your body more tired in the evening. Avoid caffeine in the evening as this can prevent sleep.
A good night's sleep isn't just about getting to sleep or staying asleep. It's the quality of what happens to your body while you're asleep that makes all the difference to how you feel the next day. In our sleep laboratory, we talk to, listen to and watch how people sleep. People sleep in lots of different ways and if there is no such thing thing as a standard night's sleep, then there's no such thing as a standard bed. So we've worked with scientists, doctors and universities to develop beds that are as individual as you are. Beds that are scientifically proved to work hard while you're asleep, whatever type of sleeper you are.
Your spine is squashed by up to 2cm each day and how you sleep at night affects how well it will recover. Our Miracoil springs support the different areas of the body in different ways. They are strong around your hips, where half your body weight is and they are gentle and supportive around areas that need cushioning, like your shoulders. We've tested all different shapes, sizes and sleeper types and the result is always the same - these three different support zones let your body relax into the perfect stress-free position. This means your spine can completely recover overnight, so you can walk taller the next morning.
All our beds have Miracoil as the "engine" - you just need to choose which of our two sleep ranges is right for you.
