Your Questions

29 July 2010 by steve jales

We have just bought a Silentnight Rutherford memory layer 5ft mattress from Homebase and like it BUT we tried it in the shop before purchasing and there is no doubt that the one in the shop was far more comfy. Will the mattress soften a little with age or am I going to have to return it as they don't seem to be made alike?

Reply from our Silentnight Expert:

There are several reasons why the feel of your new mattress does not match the one you tried in the shop.

The mattress is the shop may have been there for as long as twelve months, in which case the fillings will have settled somewhat.

The divan base used in store may not be the same as your own and this would affect the feel of the mattress considerably.

Although you did try the bed in store, lying on it for 10mins would give you some idea as to the feel and suitabilty, but it will still feel slightly different when you lay on it all night.

We would recommend that you try your bed for at least a couple of nights before making any decision about returning it to store.
