Your Questions

I am a stomach sleeper and have recently bought a memory foam mattress. I have been waking with shoulder aches. I have never found this problem with other mattresses. What should I do?

The size and type of pillow used can also play a significant role in obtaining the right combination of comfort and support. When people complain of upper body pain the choice of pillow is often the cause.

A good quality pillow should hold your head in correct alignment i.e. in the same position as if you were stood upright, with correct posture.  The pillow should be tucked well into the neck and shoulder to support the head fully.

It is a good idea to invest in quality pillows, replacing them at least every 2-3 years.  An old, unwashed pillow could also contain as much as 10% of its weight in skin scales, mould, dead and living dust mites and their allergen laden droppings!
